Let's be honest with ourselves - The Sims 4 is unplayable without mods. Do yourself a favor and get yourself some mods. (Last updated: 2025/10/09)

How to install mods and custom content in the Sims 4?

While some have specific installation instructions, you should be able to install most mods and CC by doing the following;

1. Download the mod or CC of your choice.
2. If it’s a .rar or .zip file, you need to unzip it. (If your game is running, close it now.)
3. Move the unzipped files into the Mods folder. The Mods folder can usually be found in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 (If the Mods folder doesn’t exist, you need to create it.)
4. Open The Sims 4, and go straight to Options > Game Options > Other
5. Make sure "Enable Custom Content and Mods" as well as "Script Mods Allowed" are checked.
6. Click on "Apply Changes", and relaunch the game. All done!

Before installing any mods and/or custom content, please read the descriptions and instructions attached to them. Know what you're downloading! Some of them might not work, if installed incorrectly. I’m only providing the links to the ones I think are worth installing.

• Better BuildBuy by TwistedMexi - Makes BuildBuy mode more functional (it also gets rid of the annoying flashing shopping cart in the corner of the screen).
• Better Simology Panel by SimMattically - You know you need it.
• Simulation Unclogger by TURBODRIVER - Helps with the simulation lag.
• Simulation Lag Fix by SrslySims - Also helps with the simulation lag.
• Seasons Tuner by Carl - Fixes the broken plants issue. On top of that, it comes with more functionality, such as allowing you to change the weather to Sunny with just two clicks.
• Sim Spawn Overhaul by lotharihoe - Fixes some issues with the way sims spawn and helps with the immersion.
• No Empty Venues When Arriving; Improved Autonomy During Loading Screens; Visitors Not Spawning In Front Of Venues; are three more mods by weerbesu that fix even more issues with the way sims spawn, helping with the immersion even further by making the worlds feel less empty.
• Core Food and Drink by BrazenLotus - Adds a cook book item that works like a much better organized menu for recipes. No more freezing game anytime you want to cook something!
• Aspirations Overhaul by ky-e (updated by NeedCoffee4That) - Replaces all aspirations so they're a singular goal rather than a list of tedious chores.  

No More [insert an annoyance here] Mods

• Remove Sims From Conversation by thepancake1 - Are you annoyed by the random sims that butt into your conversation without an invitation? The ones that always ruin your dates? Of course you are. But with this mod you don't have to be. With just one click, throw them out of the conversation before they even open their mouths.  
• Refreshed Main Menu by SimMattically - Hides the annoying advertisement from the main menu and replaces it with pretty pictures.
• Refreshed Loading Screen by SimMattically - Same as above, but for the loading screens.  
• Situation Outfits Be Gone by Sims4Me - A godsend mod that stops the ugly randomized outfits.
• Schedule Festivals Yourself by Zerbu - This mod is absolutely ESSENTIAL. In the vanilla game, I feel like the festivals are happening every day nowadays, which means I just choose to ignore them, and I never check them out. This mod removes the festivals (as well as their loud notifications), and adds them as holiday traditions. Now YOU can decide when they happen, if they happen at all, and how rare they are!  
• No Chatter Clutter by Lumpinou - Removes useless friendly interactions from the pie menu, such as Ask if Mermaid or Confess Fear of Vampires. No more annoying interaction clutter!
• Emotionless Lot Challenges by Vicky Sims - Removes annoying emotion buffs from the lot. No more grieving strangers, no more random embarrassment, no more feeling tense! 
• Gender & More | Custom Lot Trait by LittleMsSam - Inaccurately named, this mod is lowkey essential for those with the Get Famous Expansion Pack. It will spare you a lot of annoyances by keeping celebrities, their fans, and paparazzi away from the community lots.
• Fittness Controls by roBurky - Gives you more control over how fast your sims gain fat and muscles. By changing the main setting to 0.0, the sims will stay exactly how you designed them.
• No Sick, Dirty, Sad and Hungry Cats & Dogs by LittleMsSam - Those with the Cats & Dogs Expansion Pack will notice that the animals very often spawn in an awful state. This mod fixes this issue.
• Rainproof Electronics & Servos by simmytime - No more electronics breaking in the rain!  
• Lovestruck: Romantic Satisfaction Metric Only for Officially Committed Relationships by Lumpinou - Enables the Romantic Satisfaction mechanic only for the sims who are in a relationship. No more Romantic Satisfaction with complete strangers!
• Lovestruck: Romantic Satisfaction: No Time Decay by Lumpinou - The Love Satisfaction stops decaying.
• No Time Decay for Sentiments by Lumpinou - The Sentiments stop decaying with time (but can still be replaced by stronger sentiments).

• Stop Checking on Babies by Caigel - Gets rid of the annoying interaction.

• Light and Shader Fix for EA Cabinets by bessy - Fixes lighting issues with the kitchen cabinets.

• Auto Shorter Teens by Menaceman44 - Grab the "shortest" file to make the teens look more like teens and less like adults.

• Altmer Elf Ears by NotEgain - The vanilla pointy ears tend to be glitchy, so I prefer to just use those CC pointy ears as an accessory. They look better, too. 
• PlantSim Lives by SrslySims - An essential mod for those who like to play with the PlantSims.
• Wildflower Vines by zeusar - CC to make the PlantSims look more lore-accurate.  
• Leaves Horns by PlantainBoat - Horns for your PlantSims.
