The Only Save File You MUST Have

The Sims 4 has two big problems right at the start of the game.

First, to start a new save file, you're required to make a new sim and place them somewhere in the world. It's a step that feels unnecessary because it takes up your time, especially when you just want to build a new house, or play with a pre-made family that's already in the game. And sure, you could just download a random sim from the gallery and start the game then, but it still takes up your time.

Second, the lore of the Sims 4 is all kinds of messed up, especially in the Base Game. Iggy Pancakes doesn't exist, Johnny Zest and the Landgraabs aren't on the same family tree, people who are supposed to be friends barely know each other, the list goes on.

Luckily, there is a way to solve both of those problems at once! The solution is to download a custom save file!

I used to use The Maxis Fixed Lore Save File created by dkman84m2, and while I respect it, it has become quite messy in the latest updates. So I've decided to create my own save file from scratch!

What's included?

In my save file, I've included some gallery sims. However, I set some rules for myself, to make sure it wouldn't become a complete mess;

  • Only the sims from the official Maxis account can be included.
  • No sims based on real life people are allowed.
  • Only the sims who had made an appearance in at least one trailer can be included.
  • The pre-made sims from CAS must be included.
  • No clones! Those who share a face with someone else can't be considered.
  • Somewhat subjectively, I decided to exclude the sims that wear ridiculous default outfits, with a few exceptions.

List of changes:

  • Iggy Pancakes from Dream Home Decorator was aged down, given his canon toddler clothing, and added to the Pancakes family. Bob and Eliza's relationship is now Strained.
  • Mortimer and Bella Goth are now true friends. Bella and Alexander's hairstyles and clothes were changed slightly to reflect their original characters better. Agnes Crumplebottom is now Mortimer's aunt. (Note: The Goths, the Pancakes and the Landgraabs DON'T know each other. I don't care if they supposedly went to the same high school together, despite being different life stages - even if so, it's been ages ago, and they're different people now.)
  • Eric Lewis is in the Doctor career.
  • The BFF household are good friends with each other.
  • Johnny Zest is related to the Landgraabs. He also dislikes them.
  • Polliana DeMure is in the Paragons club.
  • Lilith and Caleb Vatore are cousins of Lily Zhu. Lilith is Vlad's offspring. (Note: According to the lore, Vlad is supposed to be related to the Climates family. In my save file, he is not. I recognize that the council has made a decision, but given that it’s a stupid-ass decision, I’ve elected to ignore it. He's supposed to be a really old vampire, so him being a random human's cousin makes very little sense.)
  • Alice, Erwin and Jess from StrangerVille are friends with each other.
  • Nalani, Makoa and Leila from Sulani are friends with each other.
  • Sidney Price and Liam Beckett have a romantic interest in each other.
  • The Wildfangs have more members.
  • Celeste Michaelson is related to her father, and she's friends with him. She's also good friends with Doli Ruano.
  • Olive Spectre has no eyebrows. Nyon has the Grimborn trait. Ophelia is Nyon's cousin and lives with the Spectre family. Ophelia was also aged down to a teenager, and got traits that fit her original character better.
  • I didn't touch the relationships of the gallery sims much - their role is to be in the background, I don't care if some of them are meant to be friends or acquaintances, it's not relevant to me. If you wish to play with your favorite pair of NPCs, you may fix their relationship yourself. With that being said, I did link the pairs of canon siblings and canon married pairs and partners together (Steve Fogel and June Kay are married, for example).
  • The Wainscot family was fixed.
  • Dylan Flynn was given pants, because Maxis snatched them for some reason.
  • The Mo'Choice household members received fitting pronouns.
  • Some of the gallery townies were moved in on the empty lots whenever it made sense to me, but you may evict them if you wish.

How to install it?

  1. Download the file. (If your game is running, close it now.)
  2. Move the file into the saves folder. The saves folder can usually be found in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 (Make sure the number doesn’t override an existing save. Change the number, if needed.)
  3. Close the folder and run your game. All done!

Now, whenever you want to start a new save, do NOT click on the New Game button (I mean, you could, but why would you want to?). Instead, click on the Load Game button, and pick WhiteBAG's Fixed Save File. Once it opens, go straight to Menu and click on the Save As... button. By saving it as something else, you create a brand new game for yourself, while keeping the original save file intact.

Good job! You've skipped the CAS, and found yourself in a better place! Now go have fun!
